Our work sits at the intersection of transportation planning, community engagement, and implementation strategy. As our portfolio continues to grow, we are seeking a Project Manager who can help lead complex planning and engagement initiatives across the Bay Area.

Role Overview

The Project Manager plays a central role in advancing Emergent Labs’ mission to strengthen equity in transportation and community-centered planning.

This role focuses on execution and delivery. The Project Manager leads transportation equity and planning projects from initiation through close-out, translating scopes of work into structured action plans and ensuring projects move forward with clarity, accountability, and consistency.

The Project Manager is responsible for managing timelines, deliverables, budgets, and stakeholder coordination across assigned projects while supporting strong relationships with public agencies, consultants, and community partners.

Core Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Execution

  • Translate contracts and proposals into clear workplans with defined milestones and responsibilities

  • Lead execution across multiple projects, ensuring deliverables are on time and aligned with client expectations

  • Maintain structured timelines and proactively identify risks or delays

  • Ensure project outputs meet quality standards and reflect our equity commitments

Budget & Scope Management

  • Track project budgets and monitor scope utilization

  • Coordinate internal and consultant workloads to meet contract requirements

  • Flag scope, budget, or timeline concerns early

Coordination & Documentation

  • Prepare meeting agendas and track action items

  • Maintain organized project documentation and shared files

  • Support preparation of reports, presentations, and client-facing materials

Client & Stakeholder Leadership

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned projects

  • Lead client meetings and coordinate follow-up actions

  • Collaborate with consultants, agency partners, and community-based organizations

  • Support community engagement processes including preparation, facilitation, and documentation

Applied Research & Equity-Based Tools

  • Conduct research and synthesize findings to inform project decisions

  • Translate technical and community insights into actionable recommendations

  • Ensure equity considerations are integrated into engagement processes and project outcomes

What We’re Looking For

  • 4+ years of experience managing or coordinating projects in transportation, planning, community development, advocacy, or related fields

  • Demonstrated ability to manage timelines and multiple concurrent deliverables

  • Strong organizational discipline and follow-through

  • Clear, direct communicator who can confidently lead meetings and coordinate next steps

  • Experience working with public agencies, consultants, or community-based organizations

  • Comfort using Google Workspace and project tracking tools

  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practice

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred (or equivalent professional experience)

  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus

Benefits and Compensation

  • Hours: 30-35 hours per week

  • Compensation: $35/hour

This position currently does not include employer-sponsored benefits.
